This paper documents an investigation on the effect of using silicone oil in the bed of a perlite biofilter for removal of a mixture of hydrophobic compounds. Two bench-scale biofil-ters, one with silicone oil and the other without silicone oil as a control, were used for the investigations. Results showed, at low inlet concentrations, the difference in performance between the silicone oil-treated biofilter and the control biofilter were insignificant, while at high concentrations, the biofilter with silicone oil performed slightly better. The maximum elimination capacities obtained in this research were 20.41 g/ (m~3_(bed).h) and 18.83 g/(m~3_(bed).h) for the silicone oil-added biofilter and the control biofilter, under the same conditions, respectively.
