Developments in Environmental Progress' Publishing Program

Environmental Progress will enter its 25th year of publication in January. It has been my distinct pleasure to serve as editor since the journal's inception. When Environmental Progress began publication, the Environmental Division of AIChE had 4000 plus members, the majority of whom were practicing Chemical/Environmental engineers. Consequently, I elected to publish papers I thought were of interest to those working in industry and consulting. Therefore, I published those papers describing real-world problems and solutions. Initially, paper selection was done by me alone based on a supply of papers from AIChE meetings. As time progressed, I instituted a review process using members of the Editorial Advisory Board. Later I began to use other professionals from the environmental engineering field along with the Editorial Advisory Board members. Currently, the review process involves papers being sent to at least three reviewers and my requirement that two positive reviews normally be received before I proceed with publication.
