Chinese Environmental Education and Technology Development Programs

摘要

The concept of "environmental protection" was first introduced to China by its representatives to the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm, Sweden, June 1972). Environmental protection was formally recognized at the First Conference of State Environmental Protection (Beijing, August 1973), and it was granted the status of a "basic national policy" at the Second Conference of State Environmental Protection (Beijing, December 1983), giving a top priority to the development of important environmental laws and regulations as well as the establishment of national environmental technology development programs to solve the existing and potential ecological and environmental problems, to address the immediate and long-term technological needs, and to ensure sustainable development for the benefit of Chinese citizens of the present and future generations.
