While the "green movement" is beginning to yield positive results in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Baltimore, a recent report indicates that as many as 186.1 million people-or approximately six out of 10 Americans-still live in areas where air pollution levels are high enough to pose a health threat. State of the Air 2009, the 10th installment of the American Lung Association's annual series of air quality assessments, released on April 29, cautions that even some of the cities cited above have seen an increase in certain pollutants since the Lung Association's 2008 report.
