"By the time, this column appears in print, we will be approaching the 1 yr anniversary of Superstorm Sandy. The EPA news story below is part of our efforts to continue to spotlight significant developments related to the environmental recovery of the region. One of the more serious environmental problems in the aftermath of Sandy was dealing with damage to wastewater and drinking water treatment systems. To assist in the rebuilding of these key parts of the infrastructure, many of which were so severely damaged that they could not operate at all, the EPA announced on May 2 that it would be awarding funds to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
