Bridging The Knowledge Gaps On The Sources, Speciation, Fate And Bioaccumulation Of Mercury In Aquatic And Terrestrial Environments

This special issue of Environmental Pollution is a compilation of papers presented at the 8th International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP) in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, August 2006. International mercury (Hg) conferences have been held every 2 to 3 years in North America, South America, Europe and Asia since an initial gathering in Gaevle, Sweden in 1990. The ICMGP meetings have grown in scope and attendance over the years. More than 1000 abstracts were submitted for the 2006 Madison conference, attended by 1150 conferees from 48 countries. The conference hosts (University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and U.S Geological Survey) ran a highly successful conference. The next ICMGP meeting will convene in Guiyang, China from 7-12 June 2009 and promises to be another highly engaging discussion on this global pollutant.
