Some underground coal mine operators caught a break from the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), which provided a generous interpretation of its December 2008 final rule requiring installation of flame-resistant conveyor belts.rnUnder the final rule, underground coal mine operators are required to place in service conveyor belts that are more flame resistant than those currently being used beginning December 31, 2009. Also, existing belts must be replaced within 10 years.
