Land restoration is an ancient practice, a civilized undertaking not without challenging complications. Throughout history it was accepted as quite normal and beneficial to human habitation. Much has changed-technologically, scientifically, and socially. Today land restoration is a widely disputed, highly contested management practice. This is mainly due to the scale of the current enterprise-restoring whole ecosystems. The historical emergence of wholesale restoration underscores the need to distinguish it from other forms of land use. The substance of this book is the development and application of a new form of management and its impact on the way we perceive nature.
