Indra 's Net and the Midas Touch: Living Sustainably in a Connected World

Leslie Paul Thiele is a professor in the Department of Political Science and Director of Sustainability Studies at the University of Florida. Indra's Net focuses on two reasons for humanity's failure to achieve sustainability. the fact of interdependence caused by globalization and the growing effect of the "law of unintended consequences." Globalization has been in place socially, politically, technologically, and economically since the 1970s. Thiele aims to provide an interdisciplinary account of these interdependencies as well as examples of the unintended effect of many of our actions. Thiele gives the name "ecosophic awareness" to the ability to understand and to navigate the web of life.
