Redacted Dominionism: A Biblical Approach to Grounding Environmental Responsibility

This book develops "redacted dominionism" as a basis for an environmental ethic for the Evangelical Community (EC). The assumption is that "if the EC understands environmental responsibility as a biblical mandate, the EC will respond" (p. 8). The key premise is that the Bible is authoritative when interpreted with a "literal grammatical-historical hermeneutic,"apropositional,plain-sense approach,understanding the language as typically understood in the historical context in which the text was written. Cone is clear about which translations and original language texts he uses. Although he acknowledges that there are three major interpretative traditions within the Evangelical Community (dispensationalism, covenant theology, and progressive dispensationalism), consistency among the three traditions in interpreting Genesis 1-11 allows for the Evangelical Community to be treated as a whole in the book.
