摘要

Life on the Brink is an anthology of twenty-four essays, most of them published here for the first time, on the ecological impact of population growth and the question of how environmentalists should deal with it. In recent years, one of the book's editors, Philip Cafaro, has become a well-known proponent of reducing immigration to the United States on environmental grounds. As many readers know, such arguments have been controversial among environmentalists and liberal activists for a long time. It is perhaps not surprising, then, that Life on the Brink has been criticized already by groups such as the Anti-Defamation League.
