Swansea produces energy from coatings

Research on generating energy through developing new coatings for materials is to receive £2.5 million funding through the EPSRC with 40 new doctorate posts created at Swansea University in the five years from September 2015. The Swansea CDT is to be called Coated2 and is overall a £6.5 million project, to be led by Dr James Sullivan and Dr Dave Penney from the school of engineering. The aim of the CDT is to develop new coatings for surfaces on steel and glass that would mean that everyday buildings could generate, store and release energy.
