Vehicles and automotive subsystems and components are rigorously tested through simulation and then through factory test chambers. And then they're put through their paces on test tracks that show how they perform under a range of conditions: different road surfaces, weather, tuning and combinations of the options that the car buying public wants to have to differentiate themselves and their car. But is all this testing actually like real life? Test consultancies preparing advanced electric vehicles for some of the world's biggest OEM carmakers will admit that, in the end, the one bit that they don't really know is how real people will actually use the vehicles in real life.
