Rolls-Royce lands £280m EIB R&D loan

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is to support the research and development of Rolls-Royce aero engines with a £280 million loan, the largest it has given to the aerospace company for R&D. It will support development of the higher thrust version of the Trent XWB aero-engine. The EIB has provided more than £723 million in investment to Rolls-Royce in the UK during the past decade, as well as supporting R&D by the company elsewhere in Europe.
