Analysing the pattern of distur bance to the air created by aeroplanes, with a view to reducing its effect, has been the subject of a great deal of research in recent years, much of which funded and coordinated by the European Commission through its competitive and sustainable growth research projects. And as more people are taking to the skies more regularly, and in bigger aeroplanes, so the research has gained a sense of added urgency.
