Climatic Chamber Keeps it Real for RDE

This summer saw the opening of the first ever dedicated Real Drive Emissions (RDE) Testing Centre in the UK including climatic chamber facilities in Northamptonshire. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive and Richard Harrington MP, Minister for Business. The state-of-the-art £8.3m vehicle development and testing facility was constructed by MAHLE Powertrain at its Northampton site. The centre, which benefited from a £2.1m investment from the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership's (SEMLEP) Local Growth Fund, will allow manufacturers to develop and test their vehicles on a new 4 WD chassis dyno while being subjected to a wide range of altitude and climatic conditions.
