Based on an evolution of the existing fuel route system, the design was split into three areas:rn1. Upgrading the reactor discharge machines.rn2. A new vertical discharge route within the discharge well.rn3. M2 fuel flask filling and handling equipment.rnEach of the eight discharge machines at Chapelcross required significant refurbishment, and control and protection systems were redesigned and replaced to improve safety.
