Large UK companies could make annual energy savings of £1.2 billion and annual carbon reductions equivalent to the annual emissions of over 4 million passenger vehicles by 2020 through the adoption of cloud computing, says a report by the Carbon Disclosure Project. The report says on current projections of cloud computing growth, large UK companies could cut CO_2 emissions associated with their "IT estate" by 50%, compared to predicted levels without its adoption. The analysis by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) follows a study by independent analyst firm Verdantix and sponsored by AT&T on the uptake of cloud computing.
