Renishaw to grow on both sides of Severn

Innovative metrology company Renishaw is expanding its manufacturing capacity to meet increased demand for its measurement and healthcare products. The company, headquartered in Gloucestershire, is buying the former Bosch manufacturing plant at Miskin, west of Cardiff in South Wales, adding 461,000 sq ft of capacity including a 10,000 sq ft cleanroom facility. The deal for the Miskin plant is due to be completed at the end of next month. Sir David McMurtry, Renishaw's chairman and chief executive, said: "This is a rare opportunity to acquire a high quality manufacturing facility in a location that has excellent transport links and a local population with skills relevant to our business. Whilst it is too early to say exactly what products will ultimately be manufactured in Wales, any employment created at the site will not be at the expense of permanent jobs in Gloucestershire".
