Lidar system monitors wind off Wales

RWE Innogy is to try out Lidar light detecting and ranging units to collect data on wind speed at the site of its Gwynt y Mor offshore windfarm, 10 miles off the coast of North Wales. Two Lidar units will be mounted on buoys and be temporarily installed close to the existing meteorological mast at Gwynt y Mor. Both units will collect wind data which can then be compared with information from the met mast and used to build confidence in this new technology in future wind farm developments.
