SEE chief executive rewarded for services to standards development

The SEE's Chief Executive Raymond Clark recently received a long-service certificate from the British Standards Institution. The award was in recognition of his work on BSI Committees from the early 1980s, when he became a member of a committee looking into the performance of safety cabinets used to handle pathogenic material. At the time that Professor Clark's laboratory at the Medical Research Council was developing a containment test for safety cabinets which is in use worldwide to this day - an initiative given impetus by the fatal incidence of smallpox in 1978 at tHe Birmingham medical school where he was part of the investigating team.
