Diffusion-controlled mobility of benzene and toluene in liquid-saturated soils containing an immobile non- aqueous phase liquid(NAPL)was investigated. Three soil types were examined at NAPL relative satu- rations of 0, 5, and 50/100. An equilibrium model accounting for diffusion through and partitioning among liquid and solid phases was shown the accurately predict contaminant release. Diffusion through the NAPL at 20/100 NAPL relative saturation was shown to be the dominant diffusion pathway.
