The role of thermal treatment of commercial and industrialnbyproducts and wastes remains a vital componentnof sound environmental management practicesnworldwide. Included in this journal are seven articles on diversenthermal treatment topics that exemplify this. These articlesndemonstrate an ongoing commitment by research,nacademic, and industrial organizations to continuously improvenand adapt thermal technologies to solve both today’snand tomorrow’s waste management challenges. These articlesnwere selected from over 100 different papers presented at then2008 and 2009 International Thermal Treatment Technologiesn(IT3) and Hazardous Waste Combustors Conference held innMontreal, Canada, and Cincinnati, Ohio. In particular, thesenarticles were selected by the conference organizers as representativenof cutting-edge developments and excellent scientificnpractices in the field of thermal treatment.
