Extended Product Responsibility A Tool for a Sustainable Economy

Despite significant gains in U.S. environmental quali-over the last 25 years, more has to be done to ensure a healthy and sustainable future. The policy tool responsible for most of the gains so far—com-mand-and-control regulation—focuses on controlling pollution at the end of the pipe. That approach now needs to be supplemented with a much broader vision that stresses a shift to sustainable production and consumption.
