Power and Salmon Along the Columbia River

In many ways, the Columbia River is the lifeblood of the Pacific Northwest. It provides a rapidly growing population with inexpensive hydroelectric power, water for irrigation, spawning grounds for valuable salmon fisheries, and countless recreational attractions. But the Columbia is a finite resource, and as the demands upon it grow, choices will have to be made about how to balance its various uses. This column describes selected Internet-accessible resources dealing with two of these uses: salmon fisheries and hydroelectric power.
