U.S., China Agree on Five Initiatives to Cut Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Air Pollution

The United States and China have agreed to five initiatives to cut greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, the State Department announced during the fifth meeting of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue. The United States and China are the top two contributors to global carbon dioxide emissions. The two countries will develop implementation plans by October 2013 to reduce emissions from heavy-duty and other vehicles; promote carbon capture, utilization, and storage; increase energy efficiency in buildings, industry, and transportation; improve greenhouse gas data collection and management; and promote smart grids.
