Democratic efforts to in- crease regulation and oversight of Colorado's oil and gas boom have ended in a near bust, with only two of their bills getting passed by the close of the Legislature, one of the measures significantly watered down. Majority Democrats had introduced a slate of more than eight bills to address the sharp rise of drilling and hydraulic fracturing operations north and east of the Denver area, activity that has sparked widespread health, safety, and environmental concerns.
