EPA Urged to Fight 'Culture of Complacency' Posing Threat to Compliance, Ethical Conduct

Senior Environmental Protection Agency management must strengthen its efforts to fight a "culture of complacency" that could enable waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars and harm the ability of the agency to protect human health and the environment, the Office of Inspector General concluded in a report. The May 28 report, Fiscal Year 2015 Management Challenges, acknowledged progress has been made by the EPA but said additional work was needed to eliminate time and attendance fraud, improper computer use and poor tracking of agency property. The agency should also take quicker action to substantiate allegations of employee misconduct.
