Carbon Capture Needed to Meet Goals For Cutting Greenhouse Gases: Coal Council

Any plans to cut greenhouse gases won't ensure a reliable power grid without the use of carbon capture, a federal advisory group with heavy industry representation wrote in a new draft report to the Energy secretary. More research and development of carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies should be done, and stronger market incentives should be implemented to encourage their use, the National Coal Council said. In particular, the council said enhanced oil recovery "represents the most immediate, highest value opportunity to utilize the greatest volumes of anthropogenic carbon dioxide."
