Senators Seek Justification for 'Abrupt' Rise In Methane Emissions Reported to EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency must not move ahead with methane emissions regulations before "demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the extent of emissions and their sources," six Republican senators wrote May 20. Led by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), the senators said they were concerned the EPA's 2016 greenhouse gas inventory "reported an abrupt change in estimates for domestic methane emissions" that the agency in turn used to justify final regulations for new and modified oil and gas infrastructure.
