摘要

A Glasgow-based construction company has been fined £4,000 after the way it carried out work led to pollution of a local watercourse. W H Malcolm pleaded guilty to undertaking construction and earth works at the site at the former Lennox Castle Hospital in a manner that resulted in polluted water to enter the local watercourses. Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) officers noticed discolouration in the Finglen Burn in Lennoxtown while in the area. On investigating further, silty discharges were found to be escaping from the construction site and officers concluded that this was the cause of the pollution. SEPA's investigating officer, Donny Morrison, said: "The Glazert Water is a popular location for angling and repeated instances of silt pollution cannot be tolerated. These problems could easily have been avoided if the company had a properly designed and installed drainage system in place before construction work started."
