Spatial planning and the new localism

This book continues the work of its editors in critiquing the approaches to planning in England taken by the UK governments of both 1997-2010 under New Labour, and 2010 onwards under the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition (see Allmendinger and Haughton, 2009; 2010; 2011; 2012; Haughton and Allmendinger, 2011). The 2011 Localism Act, and the wide-ranging reforms to the English planning system it introduced, provides the justification for the book, with the 2011-onwards system used as a point of comparison with the system introduced in 2004-the latter having had as its focus 'spatial planning'.
