Atlas of epidemic Britain: a twentieth century picture

Mathew Smallman-Raynor and Andy Cliff's Alias of Epidemic Britain is a beautiful book. The first thing that hits you is its breadth. This is not just the scope of the material that it covers and how well it does that, but also its physical dimensions. Each page is almost A2 in size, and so a double-page spread is not far off A1, 53 cm by 36 cm. The atlas is beautifully printed in full colour with over three hundred new maps, hundreds of photographs, and over 200 pages of detailed analysis concerning the geographical study of the last 100 years of epidemic diseases in Britain.
