Conference theme realised in every respect

Many years ago I was taught not to start a lecture or a presentation with an apology. I'm not sure whether this rule should apply to my column - but whether it does or not, I'm going to start with an apology. Last month, I referred to the "soon-to-be-released 10th Edition of our valuable publication". I should have referred to The Engineering Profession - A Statistical Overview, Seventh Edition, 2010, to give it its correct and full title. My apologies. The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre was the venue for the fourth in our series of engineering leadership conferences. It was a tribute to our many staff, volunteers, contractors and sponsors that their many months of planning, hard work and generosity paid off so handsomely, making the Engineering Leadership Conference 2010 the best yet. This was no mean feat as Melbourne and Perth had each raised the bar following the inaugural conference in Sydney six years ago. The challenge lies ahead for Adelaide in 2012.
