While the immediate disaster relief efforts are improving the plight of the survivors of the devastating earthquake in Haiti last month, attention is now turning to the reconstruction. According to engineering experts from around the world, the severity of the destruction of houses and infrastructure was to a large extent due to the widespread absence of any adherence to seismic building codes.
