Draft strategy released for Qld ports

The Queensland government has recently released its new ports development plan for the next 10 years with the draft Queensland Ports Strategy. The proposal declares five priority port development areas (PPDAs) for the state, which will be the only port areas where development will be encouraged. The government strategy names PPDAs for the ports of Abbot Point, Brisbane, Gladstone Mackay/Hay Point, and Townsville. The strategy said the state government will be shifting its focus to facilitating, rather than delivering, supply chain infrastructure projects. It also proposes the prohibition of capital dredging for deep water port facilities outside of the nominated PPDAs for the next 10 years in an effort to protect areas such as those adjoining the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
