Grocon to answer allegations

WorkSafe Victoria has filed criminal charges against Australia's largest privately owned construction company Grocon in relation to a pre-existing wall on one of the company's development sites that collapsed, killing three people. At the time of the incident, Grocon's developments business had plans to develop an apartment block where the Carlton & United Brewery once stood on the edge of Melbourne's CBD on land it had bought from RMIT in 2006. No construction work had been undertaken at the time of the incident but wind gusts in excess of lOOkm/hr had reportedly passed through the CBD on the afternoon of the tragedy.
