After 20 years of development and more than $200 million, Second Sight is claiming success with its device. It's the only retinal implant so far to have received regulatory approval in both the US and Europe. The company has reported positive results from a study of three patients with the implant, showing that improvements in visual function and orientation and mobility were maintained.
