摘要

The strengths of concrete and steel, the cross-section dimensions of concrete and structural steel section, and the location of steel placement are all variable parameters. As a result, the actual strength of a composite steel--concrete member differs from the nominal value calculated by the design engineer. This variability in strength is allowed for in the member design through safety provisions of the structural design codes. In this paper, the varia- bility of the ultimate strength of short and slender composite col- umns, in which steel shapes are encased in cast--in-place concrete, is studied by using a Monte Carlo technique. The results indicate that the slenderness ratio, the end eccentricity ratio and the struc- tural steel index influence the probability distribution of both short and slender composite column strength.
