Pre-stressing and Eurocode E.C.2

The usual approach to pre-stressing makes use of the 'prestressing force', but the stress resultant in the cables depends both on pre- stressing itself and on all the previous loading history, or on the superposition of many separate events, so that the comprehension of the phenomenon seems quite complicated. The approach that takes into account pre-stressing by means of a non-compatible strain has many advantages over the previous one, as this paper intends to point out.
