摘要

Although a ductile failure mode can be developed in squat reinforced masonry walls by adopting the capacity design principle, the ensuing ductility capacity of these members can be rather limited due to the presence of relatively high shear force. This paper presents the results of a study aimed at enhancing the ductility capacity of reinforced concrete masonry wall-piers by incorporating vertical separation joints into the center region of the piers. Tests indicated that the increase in ductility capacity of slitted masonry wall-pier is modes when compared to the slitted infill panels used for stiffening of steel frames in Japan.
