摘要

The author appreciates the time and effort of Prof. Blaauwen-draad in trying to shed some light on the extremely complex problem of shear effects on the stability behavior and buckling loads of beam-columns. The effects of shear on the static and dynamic behavior of beams, columns, beam-columns and their degenerate counterparts (shear beams, shear buildings, shear-beam-columns) and their modeling have been studied extensively by the author and co-workers [1-14]. Based on the author's studies, none of the classic models available in the technical literature (such as those based on the theories of Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko, Engesser, Har-ingx, etc.) is perfect and capable of capturing the exact behavior of beams, columns and beam-columns subjected to any type of loads (or combinations of loads in space and time) and under any boundary conditions (including the free-free case and the effects of semi-rigid end connections).
