Rock Anchors Stabilize Structure on Foundation

Contractors are installing the final post-tensioned anchors in an emergency program to stabilize a high-hazard dam in upstate New York's Cat-skill Mountains. The New York City Dept. of Environmental Protection launched the $24-million program last fall after a system-wide survey of the city's dams west of the Hudson River revealed that Gilboa Dam, which impounds Schoharie Reservoir, did not comply with current engineering standards for safety. The emergency reinforcement, to be complete in December, will be followed by a $250-million rehabilitation scheduled for 2008.
