Caltrans' Managed Lanes Project Relies on Equipment Rentals

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) manages more than 50,000 miles of highway, as well as over 400 public-use airports and special-use heliports in conjunction with local agencies. United Rentals serves as an equipment rental provider to Caltrans. One current example of a large-scale project is a landmark freeway improvement effort that will change the face of travel along a heavily congested portion of Interstate 15, between Route 163 in San Diego and Route 78 in Escondido, Calif. Caltrans began construction on the three-phase project in 2003. The final phase is currently under construction with an expected completion date in 2012.
