Computational aspect of the dual reciprocity method for dynamics

Over the last decade the theoretical aspects of DRM have been investigated by a number of authors (Partridge, P. W., Brebbia, C. A. & Wrobel, L. C. The Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method. CMP, Elsevier, 1992). The technique is now well established among the BE research community, but unfortunately it has failed to attract industrial and commercial users. The main reasons for this lack of commercial interest can be found in some unresolved issues such as the rules for the use of internal poles and the high computational cost. This paper investigates some new approaches to the problem of computational costs and presents an application of DRM to structural vibration problems. A modified formulation to the original form by Nardini and Brebbia (Proc. 4th Int. Conference Boundary Elements. CMP, Springer-Verlag, 1982) is also presented, which simplifies the application of DRM to multizone problems and avoids static condensation.
