The Nation's leadership got advising and assisting right in the Afghanistan transition. In this case, an SFAAT came from a unit with an established chain of command, creating the environment needed to make teams take ownership for the results of their counterparts. It also provided an effective observer/controller net where raters, senior raters, and reviewers know their subordinates and can apply necessary amounts of pressure to get results. The SFAAT model also created a unity of effort that is critical to the mission set when there are many hands in the pot. Leaders who are offered the opportunity to lead such a critical team at such a critical juncture in the Nation's history should embrace the opportunity from the beginning.
