TROJAN HORSE INTEGRATED TRAINING STRATEGY

The 8th Engineer "Trojan Horse" Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas, began training for its return to combat operations shortly after redeploying from Afghanistan in December 2011. The battalion training plan was designed for the mission command of a multifunctional engineer task force operating in Regional Command-East. To prepare for the deployment, training focused on the prevalent lethal threats in Regional Command-East, the most common being command wire, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and direct-fire engagements. To train for this operational environment most effectively, the train-up integrated engineer-specific tasks with mounted and dismounted live-fire events to create highly skilled route clearance patrols.
