USAGE Builds Women's Dormitory at University of Herat in Afghanistan

As U.S. forces leave Afghanistan, it's natural to wonder what 12 years of war will lead to in this sometimes unstable and often misunderstood country. One project the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) built is high atop a hill just north of the city of Herat, overlooking the University of Herat. It is a 370-person dormitory for Afghan women who will come to the university from rural areas outside the city. The facility is a $5 million Commander's Emergency Response Program project designed to provide the young women of Afghanistan with comfortable and safe living quarters while enrolled in the university.
