Building envelope commissioning is in its infancy. It has not yet been widely practiced, and industry standards are not yet in place. The additional education requirements and certification programs for building envelope commissioning agents are not widespread. However, this will change because demand will grow as the cost benefits of commissioning become more recognized. A significant decrease in functional failures of the building exterior and an increase in efficiency in the passive and active building climate control systems will drive down the costs of routine operations and maintenance and the frequency of major repairs. The private sector will swiftly embrace building enve- the financial bottom line and enhances the private sector's role as a good global citizen. Government is not known for its swift embrace of new technology or processes, but it must embrace building envelope commissioning for the same reasons.
