Way Ahead for Engineer Leaders: Credentials Certify Experience and Knowledge

As the Army moves forward in realigning the force structure, leaders of the Engineer Regiment are doubling their efforts to mold an increasingly competent and competitive fighting force. Coupled with the directive of the Secretary of the Army and the effort led by the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, the U.S. Army Engineer School, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, is a staunch advocate of the Army Credentialing Program. As defined by the Department of the Army, credentialing is "the process of meeting certain professional and technical standards and earning official recognition in the form of certificates, licen-sure, and other official verification of competency accepted by civilian industry or federal, state or local authorities." The pursuit of credentials, whether for self-development, career progression, or a civilian portfolio, enhances professional competitiveness and allows Soldiers to equip themselves with a nationally recognized standard of excellence.
